To obtain free characters in Wuthering Waves, players must participate in events, level-up their Union Level, and progress the story! Some methods are simple, while others may require a bit more time investment. How to Get Free Characters
Progress Through Story
There are total of 3 characters that you can obtain for free, simply by progressing through the earliest parts of the Wuthering Waves Main Quest. Namely, these characters are Yangyang, Chixia, and Baizhi, all of which you will have added to your party by the time you unlock the Convene/Summoning feature!
Participate in Events
Currently, there is an ongoing event available for new players called The Gift of Thawing Frost, which is a daily login event where players can receive Lustrous Tides, Radiant Tides, and the Resonator Sanhua on the 5th consecutive daily login!
Play the Tower of Adversity Game Mode
By clearing the Stable Zone of the Tower of Adversity, players can receive the 4-Star Electro Resonator Yuanwu for free! The Stable Zone is the beginner's section of the Tower, so most players will be able to complete the Beginner's Zone by the time their Resonators reach Lv. 40-50.
Acquire Free Tides
Both Lustrous Tides and Radiant Tides are used to Convene from the standard and limited character banners! By acquiring free tides from in-game events and achievements, such as hunting Sonance Caskets, players can acquire random Resonators for free!

Giveback Custom Convene
The Giveback Custom Convene is an event where the developers mailed all the players a Selector Ticket which allowed them to choose a Standard 5-Star Character of their choice, completely free!

Yangyang

Yangyang is an Aero 4-star character that is received during the tutorial/opening portions of the game. She functions as a fantastic support because of her Energy Regen outro skill and can be slotted into many teams.
Chixia

Chixia is one of the few characters in Wuthering Waves that uses Pistols. This is important because there are a number of puzzles and mechanics that require a Pistol to engage with. Meaning players are never locked out of any content during the beginning of the game.
Baizhi

Baizhi's role is to heal your team, so having her as part of your active roster will make exploring Solaris-3 very convenient because there are only so few ways to heal your characters while you're out on the (Tacet) field.
Sanhua

Sanhua is a flexible Main DPS or Sub-DPS character who can deal on field damage while also dishing out heavy hits. Sanhua has a timing-based heavy attack mechanic that is tricky to learn, but pays out in dividends once mastered.
Yuanwu
| Yuanwu |

While not as favored as Mortefi, Yuanwu serves his role as a Sub-DPS well by leaving damaging areas of thunder whenever he enters and exits the field. This allows Yuanwu to contribute towards your team's damage even when he isn't the active party member.
