The smartphone market has lately become saturated. New devices don’t carry as many upgrades over their predecessors as they used to a few years back. Take Samsung’s S24 series or Apple’s iPhone 15 lineup, for example. While most companies are trying to play safe, Nothing adopts a different philosophy. The brand has managed to build a brand image in a relatively short period—with its devices easily recognizable even from a distance.
The Glyph interface has played a major role in Nothing’s success. Although it may be perceived as a gimmick by some, it is what mostly sets the company’s phones apart from others. The Nothing Phone 1 and Phone 2 both rocked the Glyph lighting on the back, attracting a lot of customers. Now, Nothing is gearing up for the launch of their budget smartphone, the Phone (2a).
Rumors floated earlier, hinting that Nothing would be abandoning the Glyph interface for the Phone (2a) as it is slated to be a budget smartphone. That would have been akin to stripping away a fundamental part of a Nothing phone, and thankfully, those rumors were put to rest.
A New Glyph Interface Confirmed for the Nothing Phone (2a)
Last week, leaked renders of the Phone (2a) graced us, revealing what the phone would look like. It will continue featuring the brand's proprietary Glyph lights, albeit with a redesigned look. Now, Nothing has officially confirmed the new design by sharing an AR video of the phone on X.
The video showcases the Phone (2a)’s Glyph interface in action, comprising 3 LED lights. In comparison, the Phone 2’s back had 11 LEDs, while the Phone 1 had 5 – both with LED lights throughout the rear. However, the Glyph lights of the Phone (2a) just sit around the camera department.
Considering that the Phone (2a) would be positioned as Nothing’s budget offering with a relatively cheaper price tag, the design change is likely done to reduce costs.
Another Leak Flaunts the Phone (2a) in Lifestyle Shots

Roland Quandt, a journalist for WinFuture, recently shared these lifestyle shots of the Phone (2a) on X. The real-life images provide a closer and clearer look at the smartphone, showcasing its white and black colorways.
All Known Specifications for the Nothing Phone (2a)

Some of the Phone (2a)'s specs also made rounds earlier this month. The smartphone will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Ultra chipset. On the front, you would see a 6.7-inch Full HD AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of 120Hz. While the battery capacity remains unknown, it would support 45W fast charging. A 32MP front camera would be positioned for selfies and video calls. On the back, you’d get a 50MP primary sensor paired with a 50MP ultrawide lens, both encircled by the Glyph lighting.
Release Date and Pricing

Nothing has confirmed that the Phone (2a) will be released on March 5 at 6:30 AM EST. However, if you are based in the US, there’s bad news: the phone will not have a widespread release in the country. It will, however, be available under Nothing's Developer Program, which could be similar to what the brand did with the Phone 1.
Speaking of pricing, the Phone (2a) is expected to be priced around $400, making it about $200 cheaper than the Phone 2. At this price point, it will be competing with the likes of the Pixel 7a and Samsung Galaxy A54 5G.
