The Nothing Phone 2a is launching soon. We don't know exactly when — fingers crossed for MWC Barcelona 2024 — but soon. As with all smartphones now, the closer the launch gets, the more leaks that we are blessed with, and there's a pretty big revelation for the Nothing Phone (2a).

The Glyph lighting interface on the back of earlier Nothing smartphones has made itself a big part of the company's DNA. But if recent leaks are to be believed, it looks like the back of the Nothing Phone (2a) is about to be very different, and not for the better.

The “a” In 2a Means Some Features Are Sacrificed: Glyph Might Be The Biggest

When the first whispers of the Nothing Phone (2a) were heard, it was easy to assume that it was going to be a lower-end and mid-cycle take on the Nothing Phone (2), similar to what the Pixel “a” series does. Of course, with that, it means some features and specs end up trimmed down to keep the price low.

Unfortunately, according to a leak from Smartprix and X tipster OnLeaks leak, the Glyph lighting and transparent back that makes the Nothing smartphone instantly recognizable is part of what will be missing in the Nothing Phone (2a). We get it: cost-cutting. But it's really hard to say bye to that iconic look.

In its place, we'll be getting what looks like a stylized internal layout printed on the back of the back of the phone. It seems like this kind of design would be easier to print on plastic than metal or glass, so the device will probably extend its savings to the build material as well.

How Will The Nothing Phone 2a Retain That Nothing DNA?

A Nothing Phone has to look and feel like a Nothing Phone, so even though this will be an A-series device, it needs to carry that familiar DNA to pull loyalists over.

As different as it is from the Glyph lighting system, the back of the Nothing Phone (2a) is still the only thing you'll see on a device from the company. Samsung, Google, and Apple aren't quite as bold as this. It might not be instantly recognizable as a Nothing device, but if someone tells you it is, you're likely to say, “that makes sense”.

You'll also get Nothing OS in tow, so if you're a fan of the unique software experience they provide, that'll be here, too.

When Can We Expect Nothing Product Releases in 2024?

It's 2024, and we expect to see the Nothing Phone (2a) and the Nothing Phone (3) launch this year. When can we expect them to be officially unveiled?

There's no exact date for the Nothing Phone (2a) yet, but by all indications, it will likely be officially revealed at MWC Barcelona 2024. The launch is clearly gaining steam, and MWC is a few weeks away. The timing is perfect.

Meanwhile, the Nothing Phone (3) is bound to come with a mid-year date. The Nothing Phone (1) and the Nothing Phone (2) both launched in July of their respective years, so it's a safe bet to expect them to stick to that pattern for now, though with the (2a) launching, they might shift things a tad.
