Tecno is one of those brands that has a pretty impressive presence in markets like a large part of Africa, India, and some countries in the Middle East and Latin America, but it has yet to cement itself in Europe and North America. Despite that, they work hard to provide the best smartphone experience for their loyal customers.
Improving the imaging experience was the next thing on their list and they've launched not a smartphone, but a brand-new imaging system for their smartphones.
Tecno's PolarAce Imaging System Touts Itself As A Photography Gamechanger
As someone who has spent a large part of my life around Tecno devices, I can say that I appreciated their devices for their affordability and relative bang-for-buck, but never for stellar camera performance. I have always been big with the cameras of the phones that I decide on, after all. But it seems that Tecno might be about to change their ability in that regard.
The Tecno PolarAce Imaging System is the first imaging system from the company, unveiled today at MWC Barcelona, and built on a Sony imaging chip (and Sony loves photography), it looks primed to bring major improvements to the photography and videography that future Tecno devices will be capable of.
Tecno says that PolarAce's performance rests on four major advancements: a combination of Tecno and Sony Lytia optical components, a Sony imaging chip, Tecno's Universal Tone multi-skin tone imaging tech, and AI imaging algorithms. While the Tecno Camon 30 Premier, the phone that will bring PolarAce to market, is yet to launch, we do expect Sony's independent imaging chip to improve camera performance notably.
Things that Tecno claims we'll be getting with this new system include “4K 30fps full-scene AI-NR HDR video”, more accurate depictions of individual skin tones, lower energy consumption when shooting video, AI portrait costumes and disguises, and single-click Object Eraser-type functionality.
The Tecno Camon 30 Premier's Camera Performance Will Be Watched Closely
Tecno's PolarAce positions itself like it is bound to change Tecno's imaging quality by bounds and leaps, but for now, that's mostly marketing. What we eagerly look forward to is the launch of the Tecno Camon 30 Premier, which will be the first device of theirs to come with this system in tow.
We don't know too much about the Camon 30 Premier beyond some basic specs. For instance, it will have a 1.5K LTPO AMOLED display with a peak brightness of 1400 nits, but there's no official info on its screen size. It will also come running on the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate.
We do know there will be an LED indicator on the rear panel called the Action Dot which lights up when video recording, charging, or to show when voice assistants are listening. On the camera side, we know there'll be a 70mm periscope lens with 60x hybrid zoom, and a 50MP selfie camera with eye-tracking tech. But that's pretty much all that's been confirmed.
When Can We Expect The Camon 30 Premier To Launch?
There's no exact date for when the Camon 30 Premier will launch, beyond the release date being sometime in the second quarter of the year. The Camon 20 Premier launched in May 2023, so that's a safe estimate.
However, you can trust on us to remind you when it launches and tell you everything there is to know about the device and its new PolarAce imaging system.
