For those that believe Google's claim that 23W charging is actually fast, you may be surprised to learn that a phone that charges over ten times faster has launched earlier today. Realme's GT Neo 5 maxes out the capabilities of its USB-C port with 240W Ultra-fast charging speeds. Yeah, that's 240W, which means that the GT Neo 5's 4,600mAh battery will recharge from 1-100% in 9 and a half minutes. Which is insane.
If you don't have 9 and a half minutes to spare, a four-minute charge will get you a 50% boost to get through the day. And if you are worried about what the 240W charging means for battery degradation, Realme says that the battery can handle 1,600 charging cycles before dropping to 80% of its capacity.
If the thought of 240W charging makes your head spin, you'll be happy to learn that there is a variant of the GT Neo 5 that will make do with just 150W charging. To make up for the longer charging time, the battery gets a bump to 5,000mAh capacity.
The GT Neo 5 has another standout feature in the form of an Aura RGB light ring that is next to the rear camera housing and which can be customized with 25 colors to signify what type of notification you've received. An NFC circuit is located in-between the camera housing and the RGB LED lighting. The rear panel has a neat frosted glass finish with the obligatory vertical GT stripes.
Under the hood, you'll find a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor which is paired up with a choice of 8/16GB of RAM and 256GB or 1TB of built-in storage. The display carries on the theme of performance with a 6.74-inch AMOLED panel with FHD+ resolution and up to 144Hz refresh rate. Mobile gamers will be happy to learn that the panel supports a 1,500Hz touch sampling rate. There's an IR blaster present, dual speakers, and a new 8-layer heat dissipation design.
The 50MP main camera (Sony IMX890) features OIS and is accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide lense and a 2MP macro camera. The 16MP selfie camera is housed in a centrally-located punch-hole on the display.
Weighing 99g, the 8.9mm thick GT Neo 5 is available in purple, black, and white colorways with pricing starting from around $470 in China. Realme says that the GT Neo 5 will make its debut in international markets before too long.
But that's not all. While the GT Neo 5 launched in China earlier today, Realme will be announcing a new global flagship called the GT 3 which will also feature the very same 240W charging speed. It's thought that the Realme GT 3 will be unveiled at MWC 2023 in Barcelona in a few weeks time.
