OnePlus has started rolling out Android 17 nearly a week ahead of schedule, and this update comes with a big change: it swaps OxygenOS for ColorOS, the software OPPO uses on its own phones. The OnePlus 15 and OnePlus Pad 4 are first in line, according to 9to5Google. Here's the full schedule, and what it means if you bought your OnePlus in the US.
In Short
- The stable Android 17 update (ColorOS 17) started reaching the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus Pad 4 on October 23, beginning in India.
- The OnePlus 15R, 13 and 13s are next, with the rest of the lineup following through early 2027.
- In North America, OnePlus says the switch to ColorOS will be optional and will arrive over the coming months.
The End of OxygenOS
This is the first update that moves OnePlus phones from OxygenOS to ColorOS, as 9to5Google points out. OnePlus announced in July that it would retire OxygenOS when it pulled back from most global markets. “ColorOS 17 is here, bringing a new wave of smarter experiences,” the company wrote in its community post.
The rollout was originally set for October 29. Users enrolled in OnePlus' beta program appear to be getting it first, and those who switch can roll back to OxygenOS, according to Android Central.

TechRepublic notes that these dates mark when distribution starts, not when every phone will have it. Updates arrive in batches depending on model, region and carrier.
What It Means if You Bought Your OnePlus in the US
OnePlus confirmed in July that it would stop launching new products in North America and Europe, according to Android Authority. The good news for current owners: software updates, warranty and after-sales support continue for existing devices.
The switch to ColorOS is also optional in North America. OnePlus told Android Authority that owners there will be able to choose whether to update, with ColorOS rolling out over the coming months. No US date has been announced yet.

How to Check for the Update
Go to Settings, then System & Updates, then Software update, as Nokiamob explains. Back up your phone first and connect to Wi-Fi, since this is a full system switch.
The Limit
For now, the stable update has only been spotted in India. OnePlus hasn't confirmed which rollback versions are supported. The OnePlus 13T shows up on the eligibility list OnePlus shared in July, according to Gizchina, but not on the published schedule. Older models outside the update plan will get “version maintenance support,” and OnePlus says details will come later. For what OnePlus is launching next, see our OnePlus 16 coverage.
