Winter chores and arcade nostalgia don't usually share a driveway, but Yarbo is betting $6,399 (C$8,799) that they can. The robotics company has teamed up with Bandai Namco on a limited-edition PAC-MAN version of its Y40 Core and Snow Blower Gen 2 bundle, on sale in the US and Canada only until November 2.

The Yarbo x PAC-MAN limited edition pairs the Y40 Core unit with the Snow Blower Gen 2 module and dresses both in a yellow-and-black livery pulled straight from the arcade. The Core gets co-branded PAC-MAN x Yarbo panels on its tracks, complete with a pixel PAC-MAN chasing a ghost and a trail of dots. There's more PAC-MAN artwork on the top deck next to the red stop button.

The Snow Blower carries the theme further, with a blocky pixel PAC-MAN on each side panel and a bright yellow auger and guard. The chute even gets a yellow cap with a PAC-MAN icon. According to Yarbo, none of this touches the robot's autonomous capabilities, so it still clears your driveway the same way, just while channeling a 1980s arcade icon.

The pitch leans hard into the maze metaphor, with your snowy yard as the maze and the snow as the Pac-Dots. Yarbo's own key art takes it literally enough that it carries a disclaimer: the golden dots are visual effects and shouldn't be cleared with the snow blower. Good to know, I suppose.

Why it matters

When was the last time anyone felt affection for a snow blower? Yarbo says the collaboration is meant to bring personality to a category that has always been about pure utility. It's a familiar move for anyone who's watched phone makers roll out anime and gaming special editions over the years.

It also highlights what makes Yarbo different from a regular robot mower. The company's platform runs on a single core unit with swappable modules for mowing, leaf blowing, and snow clearing, an approach we saw expanding when Yarbo's modular yard robot went from prototype to product at IFA. Yarbo co-founder Kenneth Kohlmann says the PAC-MAN tie-in shows that “clearing the driveway can actually be fun.”

Under the arcade styling, the Snow Blower Gen 2 runs on a tracked platform with RTK-GPS positioning and path planning to work through designated areas on its own. Yarbo says its two-stage system handles dry, wet, and packed snow, with a 12-inch intake height and a 24-inch clearing width. It can throw snow anywhere from 6 to 40 feet, so you're not just shifting the problem onto your lawn.

On a single charge, Yarbo rates the Y40 for around 6,000 square feet over 90 minutes, and it heads back to recharge on its own. It also picks up where it left off if interrupted, so you're not babysitting it mid-storm. The platform is rated for -13°F to 113°F (-25°C to 45°C) and carries an IPX6 water-resistance rating, the same year-round hardware we covered during the Y40P Core's early access deal in September.

The limited edition comes in two configurations, according to Yarbo. There's the PAC-MAN Snow Blower on its own, and a second bundle that adds the standard Lawn Mower Pro module, which doesn't get the PAC-MAN treatment. It's a limited run while stock lasts, and coupons and discount codes can't be combined with the Limited Edition price.

  • With Lawn Mower Pro module: $8,199
  • Where to buy: Yarbo's official website
  • Sale window: October 22 to November 2, while stock lasts

Takeaway

If you're in the US or Canada, have a driveway big enough to make shoveling a weekend-ruiner, and were already considering a Yarbo, the PAC-MAN edition is the most fun way to buy one. On paper, the Snow Blower Gen 2 covers the hard parts, from wet snow to self-charging, and US buyers get a free $169 Plow Blade on top.

The catch is that the standard Y40 Core with Snow Blower Gen 2 is currently listed at $5,599, so you're paying roughly $800 for the pixel art. The sale window also closes November 2, so there's not much time to deliberate. If you'd rather keep that $800, a shovel handles your path, or you're reading this from the UK or Europe, this one isn't for you.

We're still waiting to see how many units Yarbo is actually making. Just don't expect it to eat any ghosts.
