When it comes to foldable smartphones, it's really a choice between Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 4 or Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 4 in western markets. Until now, that is, because Oppo has just launched its Find N2 Flip globally, or at least in western markets such as Europe, the UK, and other selected regions. Powered by MediaTek's Dimensity 9000+ chipset, the Find N2 Flip features an almost creaseless display, a larger, more useful cover screen, and is capable of all-day usage without resorting to any power-saving options. All for £849. We've got more details for you below the fold.
Besides being powered by the powerful Dimensity 9000+ processor, the Find N2 Flip also features 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
The AMOLED cover display is the largest on a clamshell foldable with 3.26 inches of usable real estate. The 6.8-inch main display is an E6 AMOLED panel with LTPO technology, an FHD+ resolution, 240Hz touch sampling, and a 120Hz refresh rate. Capable of up to 1600 nits peak brightness, the display should hold up in direct sunlight without issue.
With a 4,300mAh battery and 44W SuperVOOC charging, the Find N2 Flip has the largest battery and the fastest charging of any clamshell foldable on the market, which means you won't have to compromise on how you use the phone.
As with OPPO's other flagship. the cameras are fine-tuned by Hasselblad. The 50MP main rear camera is Sony's IMX890 sensor while the secondary camera is an 8MP ultra-wide lens (IMX355). As Oppo (and OnePlus) have done in recent years, the cameras are tuned to Hasselblad's specifications with features such as the acclaimed XPAN function that takes images in a wide, cinematic frame.
The cover display is a 32MP sensor (Sony IMX709), and is AON ready. Oppo has also included its MariSilicon X imaging processor to help take incredible images.
There are dual Dolby Atmos speakers, Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, and Wi-Fi 6 networking. The fingerprint sensor is incorporated into the power button and you can use face unlock to unlock the lock screen whether the phone is folded or unfolded.
The Cover Screen
As you might hope, the cover display is capable of more than simply being used as a selfie mirror. There is support for AOD with Bitmoji and Omoji sticker packs available. There's also a choice of interactive pets which are capable of 15 fun animations when you touch them.
You can access the quick panel settings via the cover display, as well as Quick Display options for messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Messenger, Slack, Line, and Telegram, which means you don't have to open the fold. It's also able to show up to six notifications with the ability to scroll through them.
The cover screen also shows up to six widgets such as the camera app, calendar, timer, audio recording, and more.
The Crease
It's almost a case of “What crease?” with the Find N2 Flip thanks to it being the flattest crease seen on a foldable so far, and certainly less noticeable than on Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 4. This is in no small part down to the brand new Flexion Hinge which also allows for the Find N2 Flip to fold without a gap showing between the folded display. Oppo says that the hinge is 65% narrower and able to withstand 400,000 folds which works out to around 100 movements every day for ten years.
Software
In terms of software, Oppo has committed to providing 4 years of Android OS updates and 5 years worth of security patches, matching the likes of OnePlus and Samsung and actually better than Google.
Finally, Oppo says the Find N2 Flip is available to pre-order from today onwards with all pre-orders receiving a pair of Enco X2 earbuds and an N2 Flip case bundled in, as well as a Google One 100GB 6 month trial.
Available in Astral Black and Moonlit Purple, you can pick up the Find N2 Flip for a very reasonable £849 (~$1,020) from the outlets in the UK.
