Nothing ruins a vacation quite like a $300 roaming bill waiting for you at home. The good news is that the right US phone plan now bundles anywhere from a few gigabytes to 50GB of high-speed data abroad, so you can land, switch off airplane mode and get on with your trip. The bad news is that the plans that do it best aren't always the ones you'd expect.

How we picked these plans

I focused on plans that include high-speed data abroad without a daily fee, then looked at how many countries they cover and how fast they run once you hit the cap. Every figure was checked against the carrier's own pages on October 16, 2026.

Prices are for one line before AutoPay discounts unless I say otherwise, and US Mobile and Visible include taxes and fees while the rest don't. We'll refresh this list every month.

Google Fi Unlimited Premium: most data abroad

Google Fi's Unlimited Premium plan costs $65 a month for one line before taxes and fees and includes 50GB of high-speed data in more than 200 destinations, according to Google. After that, speeds drop to 256kbps. Calls from the US to more than 50 destinations are free, and while you're abroad, texts are free and calls cost 20 cents a minute.

That's the largest allowance on this list by a wide margin. Google also bundles 50GB of hotspot, 100GB of Google One storage and six months of YouTube Premium.

If you only travel a couple of times a year, Fi's Flexible plan is worth a look. It costs $20 a month plus $10 per GB, and Google says that $10 rate applies in the same 200+ destinations.

AT&T Elite 2.0: best big carrier option

AT&T's Elite 2.0 includes unlimited talk and text plus 20GB of data per month in over 190 destinations, per AT&T. Once you pass 20GB, speeds may drop to 512kbps, which is double the fallback speed on Fi and T-Mobile.

Elite also covers unlimited talk, text and high-speed data in 20 Latin American countries. It costs $70 per line on four lines after AutoPay, paperless billing and other discounts.

On a cheaper AT&T plan, the International Day Pass costs $12 a day in 190+ destinations, and AT&T says you're only charged on the days you actually use your phone. Cruise passengers pay $20 a day on more than 400 ships.

T-Mobile Experience Beyond 2.0: best for T-Mobile loyalists

T-Mobile's Experience Beyond 2.0 includes 15GB of high-speed data in 215+ countries and destinations, plus 30GB in Canada and Mexico, according to T-Mobile. After those caps, speeds drop to 256kbps. Calls abroad cost $0.25 a minute over a cellular network, including calls home, but Wi-Fi calls back to the US, Mexico and Canada are free.

T-Mobile sponsors free in-flight Wi-Fi on Delta, Alaska, Hawaiian and Southwest, but the company says anyone with a free loyalty account for those airlines can use it. The extra reserved for T-Mobile customers is In-Flight Connection, which T-Mobile says gets customers on qualifying plans online for a limited time on some flights without free airline Wi-Fi. Experience Beyond costs $105 a month for one line before AutoPay.

Experience More 2.0 costs $90 a month before AutoPay, but drops you to 5GB of data abroad and 15GB in Canada and Mexico. It's still the cheapest T-Mobile plan with any high-speed data abroad.

Need more data, or on a plan with none abroad? T-Mobile's International Pass adds high-speed data and unlimited calling in 215+ countries and destinations: $10 for 2GB over 24 hours, $50 for 15GB over 10 days, or $75 for 30GB over 30 days. T-Mobile says a qualifying postpaid plan is required, and Essentials 2.0 is among the plans that can add one.

Verizon Unlimited Ultimate: fastest after the cap

Verizon's Unlimited Ultimate includes unlimited talk and text in 210+ countries and destinations, plus 15GB of high-speed data a month. After that, Verizon says you get unlimited data at 1.5Mbps, which is the most usable fallback speed on this list.

Unlimited Ultimate costs $105 a month for one line before AutoPay and paper-free billing discounts, according to Verizon. Verizon's cheaper Unlimited Plus and Unlimited Welcome plans include Mexico and Canada talk, text and data, but no data elsewhere abroad.

On Unlimited Plus and Unlimited Welcome, Verizon says TravelPass is added automatically. It costs $12 per line for each day you use your phone in 210+ countries and destinations, or $6 per line in Canada and Mexico. Each 24-hour session includes 5GB of high-speed data, then unlimited data at 3G speeds.

Verizon texts you an offer for another 2GB of high-speed data, at $5 in Canada and Mexico or $10 elsewhere, and you can buy it more than once in a session. Verizon's International Monthly Plan is $100 per line and includes 20GB of high-speed data, 250 minutes and unlimited texts.

US Mobile Unlimited Premium: cheapest way to get 20GB abroad

US Mobile's Unlimited Premium costs $44 a month with taxes and fees included, and comes with 20GB of roaming data in 180+ countries, according to US Mobile. That's 20GB abroad for less than any big carrier plan here, and for a limited time it's even cheaper. New customers who port in a number can use the code FBF20 to pay $20 a month for the first six months.

Visible+ Pro: best budget pick for short trips

Visible+ Pro plan graphic

Visible+ Pro costs $45 a month with taxes and fees included, and comes with two Global Pass days a month. Visible says each Global Pass day covers unlimited talk, text and 2GB of high-speed data in more than 140 countries. New members who port in a number from an eligible carrier can take $5 a month off for five years with the code 5OFF5, which Visible says ends October 29.

Pro also includes up to 500 minutes of calls to 85+ countries and roaming in Mexico and Canada. If you pay annually ($450), you get 24 Global Pass days upfront, and Visible lets you bank up to 12 unused days. On Visible's base $25 plan, Global Pass starts at $5 a day.

Heading to Mexico or Canada?

You might not need a travel plan at all. AT&T says all of its domestic unlimited plans include talk, text and data in Mexico and Canada, and Verizon says every myPlan plan does the same.

On T-Mobile, Experience More 2.0 gives you 15GB in Canada and Mexico, while Experience Beyond 2.0 doubles that to 30GB. Visible says both Visible+ and Visible+ Pro include 2GB of high-speed data a day while roaming in both countries.

Verdict

Google Fi Unlimited Premium is the pick for anyone who travels often and wants to stop thinking about data, thanks to 50GB abroad for $65 a month. If you'd rather stay with a big carrier, AT&T Elite 2.0 has the most data abroad at 20GB, while Verizon's Unlimited Ultimate keeps you at 1.5Mbps once the high-speed data runs out.

T-Mobile customers get the most flexibility abroad with Experience Beyond 2.0, which pairs 15GB in 215+ destinations with International Passes for when that runs out. That could change soon, as T-Mobile is reportedly preparing new T-Mix plans to replace the Experience lineup for new customers. Budget travelers can save money with US Mobile Unlimited Premium or Visible+ Pro, and anyone who only crosses into Mexico or Canada probably already has what they need.

Roaming partners and fallback speeds vary a lot by country, so it'll be worth seeing how these allowances hold up on the ground before you count on them for navigation in an unfamiliar city. Pack a charger either way.
