HTC hasn't done much in a very long time, but they're apparently still making phones somewhere. They've announced the HTC Wilfire R70 specifically for Indian markets, and it's… well, it's okay.
HTC Wildfire R70
This phone is probably (hopefully?) aimed at being a little more budget-friendly, but it's got some very old design choices. The Wildfire R70 runs a three-year old MediaTek Helio P23 CPU, which HTC probably just has an excess of sitting in a warehouse somewhere, and it's paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Those are borderline Android Go specs, but it's running a regular version of Android 9, so that's not the case.
The camera seems decent enough, with a 16MP shooter using a higher-than-average pixel size, so it should take good photos and handle low-light better. That's about the only thing worth bragging about here though.
You're getting Bluetooth 4.2, older and slower WiFi b/g/n connectivity, and a microUSB port. Yuck. There's a decently sized 4000mAh battery powering the 6.5-inch screen, but the resolution is only 720p. It's got a headphone jack, however, so that's kind of cool.
No word on pricing or a release date just yet, but this thing needs to be cheap for it to have any success. It's using old, outdated hardware outside of the camera, and I doubt anyone outside of the very budget-minded customers are going to give this more than a second glance.
