So why exactly is HTC releasing it? Well, it's a cheaper version of the original HTC Exodus blockchain phone that's specifically designed to securely handle cryptocurrencies. The 1s can act as its own Bitcoin node, handling transactions on the device itself instead of relying on another service, which is actually kind of neat, albeit extremely niche and limited as far as who that's going to appeal to.
Here's the kicker; storing the entire Bitcoin ledger right now consumes 100s of gigabytes, and the Exodus 1s only has 64GB of storage. You're gonna need an SD card.
The phone itself is cheap, running just €219, which is about $250. But unless you very specifically need this for managing crypto, it's an absolutely terrible deal and there's no way HTC sells more than a few hundred of these.
