Google Hangouts is on the way out, and we already knew that. But despite being so late in its life cycle and so close to the end of the road, Google has just updated it to add a new feature to it. Pretty strange move, even by Google's standards.
It's a small feature, but now you'll be able to block and report Hangouts users. You've always been able to block users, but now you'll also be able to automatically send a copy of that users last 10 messages to you straight to Google. Google will then be able to examine if that user is sending a ton of spam to multiple users, and can properly ban the account.
The feature is only live on the web version of Hangouts, and it's not clear if it'll make its way to the Hangouts Android app before its separation into Meet and Chat. Hopefully we see this feature from the get-go with the new split up apps, though.
