From Global Streaming Phenomenon to Big-Screen Revival
Hwang Dong-hyuk, best known for launching the worldwide sensation “Squid Game” on Netflix in 2021, had already built a notable filmography before stepping into the streaming spotlight. His previous feature, the historic drama “The Fortress,” was released in 2017.
Post-Squid Game: Hwang’s Next Sci-Fi Thriller
Now that “Squid Game” concluded after three intense seasons, Hwang has shifted his focus back to film. According to Variety, his next project is a science fiction thriller titled “K.O. Club.” The film features Lee Byung-hun, who played the iconic Front Man in the Netflix series. As of the latest report, filming was planned to begin in the first half of 2027.
K.O. Club: Youth, Wealth, and a Battle for the Future
The story takes place in a near future where the wealthy can purchase biological youth. An aging elite tightens its grip on money and power, while younger generations are left without those advantages. The movie’s title, “K.O. Club,” stands for “Killing Oldmen Club,” highlighting the class conflict at the center of the plot.
Reuniting Familiar Faces
Lee Byung-hun isn’t the only “Squid Game” cast member set to appear. Park Hae-soo, known to fans as Cho Sang-Woo, is also part of the new project. The cast is rounded out by Oh Jung-se (“It’s Okay to Not Be Okay”), Cho Yeo-jeong (“Parasite”), and Kim So-jin (“The Man Standing Next”).
With Hwang Dong-hyuk and some of the original “Squid Game” cast teaming up once again, “K.O. Club” promises another ambitious story set to tackle themes of power, youth, and social division on the big screen.
