Alcatel has kicked off MWC 2018 with a handful of new devices sporting a slim 18:9 aspect ratio. Why 18:9 instead of 2:1? Bigger numbers are better, of course.
There are three devices here: the 5 Series, 3 Series, 1 Series. They all have many of the same features, like the 18:9 FullView display, facial recognition, and a commitment to Android software updates, but there are a few key differences depending on which model you opt for.
The Alcatel 5 is the top shelf of the brand, packing a 5.7 inch display with no bezel, a premium brushed metallic finish, and dual front facing cameras. There’s a rear mounted fingerprint scanner with custom shortcut options for security, too.
The Alcatel 5 will immediately go up for purchase in select markets in Metallic Black and Metallic Gold.
The 3 Series takes the middle spot in the lineup with a few different devices, with the Alcatel 3 opting for a 5.5 inch IPS HD+ display with 2.5D glass, the Alcatel 3X sporting a 5.7 inch 5.7 IPS HD+ display and more memory plus a better camera, and the Alcatel 3V packing a 6 inch 2k display with a dual camera system.
The devices are also immediately available in a variety of metallic colors and finishes.
Last up, we have the Alcatel 1 Series in two flavor sounds.
The Alcatel 1X is the nicer of the two models and is the first budget phone with an 18:9 aspect ratio. You’ll get a 5.3 inch display with a 16 megapixel camera, and interestingly, it’ll also be using the Android Go version of Android Oreo.
Theres also an Alcatel 1C that picks up a metal finish and only ships with 3G radios.
Both of these devices begin shipping in April.
