Google likes to tweak their YouTube interface, especially on mobile devices. However, their Android TV interface always seems to lag behind, even next to other set-top boxes.
With that being said, it looks like Google has pushed a YouTube update on Android TV that further tweaks the latest, non-Material Design aesthetic and brings some features that the last major update got rid of.
The biggest “new” feature is the ability to control the quality of playback from within the app. That was one of the features that was removed in a previous update that we've been waiting to be brought back, by the way. The last version simply picked the highest quality of video based on your network speed, and you had no control over it beyond that.
Otherwise, it's a small update. It's being pushed from Google's end, too, so no need to worry about updating your app or anything. Keep an eye out for it next time you fire up YouTube on your television.
