Even though the Google Pixel 8 Pro got into the whole AI game first, Samsung did a better job of making noise about it when it came to their turn. The Galaxy S24 family and One UI 6.1 both come with Galaxy AI, and it's one of the headlining features for both.

Galaxy AI on the Samsung Galaxy S24 devices is powered by Google's Gemini Nano model, and that partnership doesn't look bound to end anytime soon. Reports say that the S25 series of smartphones will be powered by Gemini Nano 2, Google's on-device AI successor.

Google has multiple tiers of its Gemini AI model. At the very bottom is Gemini Nano, and while it being at the bottom means that it is the least powerful of the bunch (under Gemini Pro and Gemini Ultra), it also means that it is the only tier that can be used on-device. That means it can't do as many things as the more powerful tiers can, but it also means it is much faster.

We've had the first generation of Gemini Nano which runs on the Pixel 8 Pro (and will come to the vanilla Pixel 8), but the second generation is likely to be unveiled towards the end of this year, before Samsung's next S generation comes out. In fact, according to a report from a Daum Herald Business in Korea, we know that the Galaxy S25 series is expected to come with Gemini Nano 2.

Of course, there's pretty much zero information regarding Gemini Nano 2 at the moment, but we can expect it to come with improvements, likely in speed and complexity. Along with it, we should also expect Samsung to widen the suite of features that come with Galaxy AI as of now.

Samsung Is Also Working On Gemini Nano 2 Support For Exynos Chips

In 2023, Samsung opted for Snapdragon chips all around their flagship lineup, which certainly made a lot of people happy considering that Exynos chips haven't had the best track record when placed side by side with Qualcomm's offerings each year.

However, this year, the Exynos option came back in the form of the Exynos 2400. It kind of made sense why though. Samsung went back to the drawing board, and even though the Exynos 2400 is still inferior to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the gap is smaller than ever and this explains why there are rumors that the Exynos 2500 might even outperform the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

If Samsung is going to place bets on their Exynos chips, they'll need to be able to keep up with the trends and have support for on-device AI, which explains why the same report says that the company is planning to put a lot of effort into making sure their Exynos chips can keep up.

Supposedly, the Exynos 2500 will have a Google-built AI chip, which should provide Gemini Nano 2 support alongside the next top-end Snapdragon chip. Samsung might finally be reaching a point where we don't need to run away when we hear “Exynos”.
