After launching a number of flagships that missed the spot in spite of being good phones in their own right, LG has switched up its mobile strategy yet again in 2020. This time, the Korean company is actually doing something different to achieve better results instead of hoping the same old designs would do the trick. We've seen the svelte Velvet make its mark earlier this year, and now it seems that LG is ready to have some fun by launching the Wing, a dual-screened smartphone that offers a different take on the folding, sliding smartphone trend.

Update 9/9/2020: While we wait for the LG Wing to be officially announced on September 14th, Evan Blass has posted a new render of the phone on his Patreon page. The new image shows off the rear of the phone which features a trio of cameras, a dual-LED flash, and discreet LG branding on the lower third of the panel.
The LG Wing is part of the company's Explorer Project that was set up to ‘explore' and inject new life into untapped areas. Basically, if you think of the Explorer Project as a sort of ‘Skunkworks' for smartphones, you probably aren't far off the mark.
We've seen the ‘leaked' video of the LG Wing being used as a sat-nav in a Maserati, and while we can see that the device has dual-displays, little is known about its internals. Will it sport a flagship processor such as the Snapdragon 865, the Dimensity 1000C from MediaTek (like T-Mobile's Velvet), or will it follow the Velvet's usage of the Snapdragon 765G? All three are exciting prospects for different reasons, and we haven't even got to talking about the displays which we will assume, being LG, will use OLED technology.
The LG Wing is the company's most exciting phone to launch since the G5 with its modular additions. It's good to see LG having fun with design and taking real chances with its smartphones instead of playing it safe, producing admittedly good devices that prove to be boring with awkward monikers. The Android world needs another brand to stand toe-to-toe with Samsung, and we are truly excited to see what the LG Wing delivers.
