Realme is one of Oppo's sub-brands, and it's generally a pretty well-received manufacturer for its excellent hardware relative to the price. But like many of those high-value competitors, the software tends to irritate more users than it entices.
It looks like Realme is finally coming to grips with that, and they're planning to ditch their software skin in favor of something a little more vanilla-flavored in the future.
ColorOS 7.0
The new software will be ColorOS 7.0, jumping from the current iteration of ColorOS 6.0 with no incremental updates. It's still going to be called ColorOS, obviously, and will probably still have some device-specific features built-in, but it should look and feel a little more like stock Android. Think something along the lines of what Motorola and OnePlus do.
Software development also takes time and money, so there's always the chance that by spending less R&D on gimmicky ColorOS improvements that people generally don't even like, we'll see other aspects of Realme phones improve in the meantime.
It doesn't appear as if this will affect Oppo phones, however; they'll continue to use the full version of the skin with all of the extra UX overlays and whatever else gets thrown in.
Would you consider buying a Realme phone if it ditched the superfluous Android skin?
