We recently reviewed OPPO's Reno 10x Zoom Edition and came away with a good impression of the company's first foray into Europe's premium smartphone segment. As Huawei's troubles with the US government continues to affect its access to Google apps and services, the second wave of OPPO phones has reached Europe in the form of the Reno 2 and the Reno 2Z with strong levels of specifications for an affordable price.

Reno 2

Despite a mid-range price of £449/€499, the Reno 2 looks very similar to the more expensive Reno 10x Zoom Edition with its glass and metal design. The Reno 2 boasts a 6.5-inch notch-less E3 AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution (2400 x 1800), a 20:9 aspect ratio, 93% screen-to-body ratio, and an in-display fingerprint sensor. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G processor with 8GB of RAM (2GB more than the Pixel 4), 256GB of storage as well as MicroSD card support.

With a foursome of rear cameras, the Reno 2 promises to take mid-range photography to new heights. Sony's IMX586 sensor with 48MP is at the centre of things with a 13MP telephoto lens sporting 5x hybrid zoom, a 2MP monochrome lens, and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens adding extra firepower, along with features such as Ultra Dark mode, Ultra macro Mode, and Ultra-Steady Video Mode. The selfie camera is housed in the pop-up shark fin and consists of a 16MP sensor.

Keeping the Reno 2 running throughout the day is the big 4,000mAh battery that supports OPPO's VOOC charging technology, this means you can recharge the battery from 0-50% in just 30 minutes. In terms of software, the Reno 2 runs OPPO's ColorOS 6.1 which is based on Android 9 Pie.

Reno 2Z

The Reno 2Z is the cheapest of the two new models but still brings a lot to the table. Priced at a very reasonable £329/€369, the Reno 2Z also looks similar to the Reno 2 with its 6.5-inch notch-less AMOLED display with an aspect ratio of 20:9 and FHD+ resolution. Unlike the Reno 2, there's a MediaTek Helio P90 processor providing the grunt, along with an impressive 8GB of RAM (still 2GB more than the Pixel 4) and 256GB of built-in storage (with MicroSD card support).

Camera-wise, the Reno 2Z has a slightly different configuration to the Reno 2, featuring the same 48MP main sensor that is accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide camera, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP monochrome sensor. There's a 16MP selfie camera that appears courtesy of a more traditional-style pop-up, albeit on that features illumination on either side that can be customized.

As with the Reno 2, the 2Z sports a 4,000mAh battery that supports OPPO's VOOC 3.0 charging technology that brings a 50% charge in just 30 minutes via the USB Type-C port.

Both the Reno 2 and Reno 2Z are already available to purchase via the usual retailers in the UK and Europe.
