Google is finally making its own item tracker. Pixel Tag arrived today as the company's answer to Apple's AirTag and Samsung's SmartTag, built around the same Find Hub network that already powers lost-phone tracking across Android.

Pixel Tag is a small stainless steel disc rated IP67 for water and dust resistance, with a built-in speaker for locating it and a button that works in reverse, letting you ring your phone from the tag itself. Google says the battery lasts up to a year and can be swapped out yourself rather than requiring a full replacement.
Setup runs through Fast Pair. Pull the battery tab, hold it near an Android 9 or newer device, and it connects automatically, with the option to name it or pick a category right in the Find Hub app. You can share a single tag with up to 10 people, useful for anything the whole household keeps track of together.
Why It Matters
The real value of a tracker isn't the hardware, it's the network behind it, and Google's pitch here is scale. Find Hub taps into more than a billion Android devices to help locate a tag once it's out of Bluetooth range, with location data end-to-end encrypted along the way. That's a bigger crowdsourced net than most competitors can offer outside of Apple's own ecosystem.
Precision finding is where the tech gets more specific. Pixel Tag uses Ultra-Wideband combined with Bluetooth Channel Sounding to give you visual distance and directional cues when you're close, which is the difference between “somewhere in this room” and “under that couch cushion.” Google also added Left Behind alerts and automatic notifications when an unfamiliar tag appears to be traveling with you, addressing the stalking concerns that dogged early AirTag adoption.

Beyond the phone, Pixel Tag works from your Pixel Watch through the Find Hub app, and you can ask Gemini through your Pixel Buds to ring it for you. That hands-free access is a small thing, but it's the kind of detail that makes a tracker actually get used instead of forgotten in a drawer.
The Takeaway
A single Pixel Tag runs $29, or $99 for a four-pack, when it hits the Google Store on November 11. That's a later ship date than the rest of today's Pixel announcements, and it puts Pixel Tag in direct competition with AirTag on price while leaning on Android's much larger device network as the differentiator.
