Samsung explains the massive fingerprint security flaw in the Galaxy S10/Note 10 4

Samsung has been in hot water lately over some pretty shoddy fingerprint scanning on the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10. Apparently there's a pretty easy way to get into someone's secured phone, regardless of whose fingerprint you use. That's, uh, pretty bad, no matter how you look at it.

The good news is that they're not brushing it under the rug. Samsung has acknowledged the problem, and officially says that it only affects users if they're using a silicone cover that covers the entire phone, including over the screen. There's something about how silicone cases mess with the ultrasonic waves that make the fingerprint scanner work that trips it to work with anything. That's still a big problem, but at least we know what the problem is.

Samsung suggests that, for right now, you should get rid of those covers and don't let one near your device, because someone can use it to get in your device regardless of if their fingerprint is registered on your phone. They're pushing out a software update shortly that should solve the problem, after which users should certainly erase all of their fingerprints and re-register everything to make sure it's all working properly.

So if you have a Galaxy S10 or Galaxy Note 10, be very careful. This one's not quite as bad the chewing gum that could unlock a Nokia phone, but it's pretty close.
