AT&T TV NOW introduced two new packages earlier in the year and they've suddenly decided to punish customers enjoying older, grandfathered plans. At the time of the new packages, customers were able to keep their current rate with a small price increase, but AT&T just started emailing customers with some unwelcome news. Grandfathered plans will no longer be discounted and they'll soon be paying $85 or more.
AT&T responded to an inquiry from Cord Cutters News with this statement:
We’re adjusting our pricing to reflect the cost to deliver content to our customers. Customers can contact us at any time to review their plans or make account changes.
AT&T is only required to give 30 days notice of any price increase, so not all customers are being notified as it's dependent on their renewal dates. Price increases sent in recent emails will take effect on November 19th, while additional emails will go out at a later date.
Here's an example of a recent email:

Some emails to early subscribers confirm that their $25 discount will remain, while others received emails like the one above. It's all a bit of a mess and if you feel that you qualify for the $25 discount and received the above email, be sure to contact AT&T customer support.

Finally dumped them yesterday. I was an early adapter of DTvNow and it never really got off the ground. Raising prices Evey three to six months is not a way to keep customers, especially when the DVR is still in beta, you cannot use the DVR with Chromecast. Half assing things is not a way to keep customers while playing pricing games. Good riddance!
