Plex is in an almost constant state of adding new features to the platform, making it one of the most robust and powerful media servers on the planet, especially with the right Android TV box. Next up on the feature list is a way to ease the pain in trying to find subtitles for your movies and TV shows without having to actually manually add in a subtitle file for every piece of content in your library, which will be great for those of you weirdos who always have subtitles on.
Now when you're getting ready to watch a movie you can have Plex quickly scan and apply subtitles to the film based on what it can find in a large number of languages. No more digging around the darkest corners of the internet for an old subtitles file when Plex can handle it for you.
That feature will be rolling out in Preview for Plex Pass users soon, so keep an eye out for it.
But on the other side of this sword, Plex will be nixing some lesser used features based on usage numbers and how costly those features are to maintain. Plugins, for example, will be disappearing from Plex, with the caveat that you'll still be able to manually install them for the foreseeable future. Watch Later is also getting axed from the platform, and Cloud Sync is on the way out, too. According to Plex's numbers, however, very few people are actually regularly using those features, so most of you shouldn't be affected.
Happy watching, Plex users.
