Exoskeletons have mostly meant one thing so far: a motor at the hip, doing its best to carry your legs along for the ride. Hypershell is done with that half-measure. Its new Halo exoskeleton powers the hips and knees together, which the company calls the first consumer exoskeleton to run all four leg joints as one coordinated system.

The HyperDrive Pro four-motor system pushes out 1,490 watts of peak output across both legs, with each knee unit weighing just 170 grams. Hypershell says that's enough to cut knee-muscle fatigue by up to 40 percent during squats, the kind of repetitive strain hikers and manual laborers feel first. HyperIntuition 2.0, an AI model trained on more than 10,000 hours of motion data, reads a wearer's movement through 30-plus sensors and adjusts assistance up to 2,500 times a second, anticipating what the legs are about to do roughly 200 milliseconds before they do it.
The whole rig weighs 2.6kg and folds down to under 8 liters, small enough to disappear into a daypack, while a swappable 370-gram battery is rated for up to 20km of range. A five-buckle harness gets it on in about 20 seconds and off in five, and Hypershell rates the whole thing IP54 for rain and dust.
Why it matters

Hypershell's earlier exoskeletons only assisted the hips, leaving the knees, arguably the joint that takes the worst punishment on a long descent, to fend for themselves. CEO Kelvin Sun says Halo isn't a bolt-on fix for that gap, it's a ground-up rebuild designed around four powered joints from the start rather than powered knees bolted onto an old hip frame. Whether that engineering choice actually translates to less soreness on a real trail, rather than just a better spec sheet, is the question a proper hands-on needs to answer.
