The M16 OLED material is already out in the wild, and the version landing on the iQOO 16 is a new spin on it. At a joint event in Korea on September 14, Samsung Display and iQOO confirmed the upcoming iQOO 16 will ship with a 2K, 165Hz panel built on the M16 light-emitting material, which iQOO says is the first time that material has been paired with 2K resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate on any phone.

The panel is a 6.85-inch flat OLED running 2K resolution at up to 165Hz, paired with what iQOO calls 2K LEAD 2.0, its label for the combined material and driver-IC package. iQOO says peak brightness hits 2,800 nits and that the panel draws 31% less power at 150 nits than a similarly sized 1.5K display.
The phone itself is expected to pack a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, an 8,400mAh battery with 100W wired and 40W wireless charging, and a triple rear camera. iQOO hasn't confirmed a global launch date beyond “later this month” in China.
Why it matters
M16 itself isn't new. The Pixel 11 series launched with M16 panels back in August, and the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max go on sale September 18 with M16 as well. iQOO isn't first to use M16 but it is the first to pair M16 with 2K resolution at 165Hz, which means gamers should be looking forward to the 16.

iQOO doesn't officially sell phones in the US, and sadly, nothing here suggests the 16 changes that. What's worth paying attention to is the display tech underneath: Samsung's M16 material is already in phones you can buy right now and the iQOO 16 shows where that same material goes next once a gaming-focused brand starts pushing refresh rate instead of just brightness. Frankly, we expect the Iqoo 16 to be an excellent phone. If you can get one.
