Huawei launched the P20 Pro back in March at an event in Paris, and it's fair to say that we were more than a little impressed with its stunning Twilight finish, great battery life, and ability to take amazing pictures, day or night. Slow-motion video is something that Huawei made a big deal about during the launch, and it seems that this feature, and the camera app in general, is getting tweaked in an upcoming firmware update.

According to XDA forum members, the P20 Pro could soon get a firmware update (B131) that will add the ability to automatically take slow-motion video (as seen in the embedded Instagram video from mmeidl78), much like the Galaxy S9 does. One of the criticisms of the P20 Pro was that it was difficult to time the taking of the slow-motion video with the actual movement, often starting too soon or missing the moment entirely. If the new firmware enables the phone to automatically detect when something is about to happen and then start recording the 32x slow-motion video, that going to massively improve both the experience and results.
The B131 firmware reportedly also includes a few tweaks to the phone's camera app, with the awkwardly placed zoom button being moved lower down on the display, which hopefully makes it easier to reach. It's said that the Portrait Mode has also been improved, although this is more of an observation on the reporter's part, as opposed to tangible evidence.
The B131 update isn't rolling out quite just yet so some patience is required, although hopefully its a case of waiting a few days as opposed to months. In terms of sales, Huawei has announced that the P20 Series of smartphones achieved an 81% uptick in units sold over 2017’s P10 series, with the P20 Pro recently being named the “Best Smartphone of 2018” by the European Hardware Association. So, in spite of its troubles in the US, it seems that the P20 Series is performing well in the rest of the world in terms of sales.
If the B131 firmware update has already reached your P20 Pro, let us know your experience in the comments below.
