Oppo's biggest phone hasn't launched yet, but we already know what's powering it. Oppo confirmed today that the upcoming Find X10 Pro Max will be among the first international phones to run MediaTek's Dimensity 9600 Pro, built on TSMC's 2nm N2P process, ahead of a global launch event Oppo says is still to come.

This isn't a launch, it's a pre-launch confirmation. Oppo is using the announcement to lock in the chip story early: the Find X10 Pro Max will carry the Dimensity 9600 Pro, MediaTek's newest flagship silicon, when it does launch internationally. The chip keeps MediaTek's All-Big-Core layout but reshuffles it: two 4.55GHz C2-Ultra cores paired with six performance cores, each with independent frequency control instead of running in lockstep.

Graphics get a bump too, courtesy of a new G2-Ultra NX GPU with expanded ray tracing and neural graphics support. On the AI side, MediaTek moved to a dual-NPU setup, splitting the workload between a high-performance NPU for heavy lifting and a Super Efficient NPU meant to stay on in the background without draining the battery.

Rounding it out is the OPPO Laminar Flow Engine, a rendering and scheduling layer Oppo co-developed with MediaTek specifically for this launch. It's designed to smooth out app launches and keep things like rapid photo scrolling from stuttering under load.

A 2nm process on a phone that isn't a Snapdragon flagship is the real headline here. Qualcomm has held the “first on the newest node” spot for a few generations running, and MediaTek closing that gap with a chip this aggressive is a genuine shift in how Dimensity silicon gets talked about.

The dual-NPU approach is the more interesting long-term play. On-device AI features live or die on battery impact, and pairing a dedicated low-power NPU for always-on tasks with a high-performance NPU for heavier work is Oppo and MediaTek betting that persistent AI assistants need different silicon than a one-off photo edit.

Unfortunately, we still don't have a date for the actual global launch event, so pricing and availability are a waiting game for now. What we do have is Oppo and MediaTek's own performance claims for that 2nm chip, and we can't wait to see how they hold up once the Find X10 Pro Max is actually in hand for review.
