Android tablets are in an undeniably awkward spot, with pretty lackluster sales and Amazon making up a significant chunk of market share completely without the Google Play Store. On top of that, Google is pushing for Chrome OS to slide into the tablet space, making things even more unclear.
But all of that isn't going to stop Sony, who is now rumored to be working on a few tablets to try and revitalize the Android tablet market. Good idea or bad idea? Who knows.
Sony's last tablet was the Xperia Z4 Tablet, which was pretty mediocre all around. That was almost three years back, so things have changed quite a bit since then.
There's some information in the code for the camera app of the Xperia XZ2, hinting at both an 8-inch and 10-inch tablet. That also seems to imply that the tablets would be launched in the same lineup as Sony's newest Xperia XZ2 phones that were announced at MWC this year, which probably means we'll see similar design language and features.
To round that out, Sony is expected to announce an Xperia XZ2 Pro device alongside these tablets later this summer, which means we've got a lot to look forward to out of Sony in the next few months.
Now if only Sony can price these things appropriately, we can really get excited.
