Zeta-Jones Back in the Spotlight—Gangsters, Action, and British Humor
Over the last ten years, Zeta-Jones has worked in a handful of series, most of which remained relatively obscure internationally. These include Queen America (Facebook Watch), Prodigal Son (Fox), and the National Treasure spin-off on Disney+, Treasures Lost: The Secret of Moctezuma. Now, she’s returning to TV in Kill Jackie, a gangster series with clear John Wick vibes, but with a British twist and a dark comedic edge. The trailer promises a fast-paced and wild story.
What’s ‘Kill Jackie' About?
Adapted from the novel “Go F*** Yourself” by Nick Harkaway, Kill Jackie flips the script by changing the original lead, Jack Price, into Jackie—the heroine played by Zeta-Jones. In the show, Jackie is a former cocaine trafficker who’s reinvented herself as an art dealer. But trouble catches up: a group known as the “Seven Demons”—psycho killers for hire—set their sights on her. Someone from her past is out for revenge. While the setup sounds familiar, the tone sets it apart, and Zeta-Jones’ Welsh accent gives it extra flair.
Kill Jackie was co-created by Tom Butterworth (Gangs of London), Damon Thomas (Killing Eve), and Peter Lawson, a producer on John Wick. Butterworth also serves as showrunner.
Big Cast, Global Chase
Varied settings and cities indicate Jackie will be fleeing these assassins across the globe, all while trying to unravel who’s pulling the strings. She’s not alone, with Daniel Ings (Lyonel Baratheon in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms) and Darci Shaw (The Irregulars, A Thousand Blows) by her side as allies. Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Pacific Rim) also appears, possibly in a more low-key—or villainous—role.
Action-Packed and Stylish
The rest of the trailer showcases what looks like a no-holds-barred action comedy, with big guns, absurd situations, bloody showdowns, and ever more outrageous traps. There’s even a visual nod to “28 Days Later,” with Jackie crossing a deserted Westminster Bridge in a blue hospital gown, just like Cillian Murphy in Danny Boyle’s iconic film.
Kill Jackie premiered in the US on AMC+ on October 2, 2026, and is set for a later release on HBO Max in France, though no official French date has been announced as of now. The same goes for The Gallerist, a new film featuring Zeta-Jones, which is set to open in US theaters on December 4, 2026, but does not yet have a French release date. In that project, she will appear alongside Natalie Portman, Jenna Ortega, and Charli XCX in a new production from Cathy Yan (Birds of Prey).
There’s plenty of nostalgia whenever Zeta-Jones returns—no matter how the years (and perhaps a little cosmetic work) have changed her. And for fans of chaotic, stylish action in the vein of Guy Ritchie, Kill Jackie looks like a welcome addition. One last twist: the teaser trailer features a Prime Video logo, adding some streaming platform confusion to the mix. Verdict? We'll have to wait and see.
