XREAL's new 1 Pro+ AR glasses go on sale today for $599, with up to 1,200 nits of perceived brightness, AI HDR and smoother 2D-to-3D conversion at 60Hz. It's a refinement of the One Pro rather than a reinvention, keeping the same X1 chip, native 3DoF tracking and 57-degree field of view.

So what does $599 get you this time around? XREAL is focusing on the things you actually notice while wearing them: a brighter picture, smarter image processing and a better fit.

What's new with the XREAL 1 Pro+

Brightness is the headline upgrade. XREAL says the 1 Pro+ hits up to 1,200 nits of perceived brightness, aimed squarely at the places people use portable screens, like near a window, in an office or on a plane.

AI HDR is new too, and XREAL says it tunes highlights, shadows, skin tones and even subtitles on the fly. There are also three display modes, Reading, Movie and Standard, so you're not manually adjusting the picture every time you switch from a document to a film.

REAL 3D, XREAL's native 2D-to-3D conversion, now runs at up to 60Hz, up from 30Hz. Because it runs on the glasses' X1 chip, it doesn't need any extra app on your phone or laptop to work.

The fit gets attention as well. XREAL has redesigned the small nose pad to suit higher nose bridges, and paired it with three-level temple adjustment to keep your eyes lined up with the sweet spot.

Why it matters

Display glasses live or die by two things: whether you can see the picture in real-world light, and whether you can wear them for a full movie. The 1 Pro+ targets both, which matters more for everyday use than any spec sheet bump.

The native 3DoF tracking means the virtual screen stays pinned in place when you turn your head, rather than following you around. That makes it feel closer to using a real monitor, especially on a flight or a cramped desk.

It also keeps XREAL busy on two fronts, alongside its work on Google's Project Aura display glasses. For now, the 1 Pro+ is the polished option you can buy today.

Key details

The 1 Pro+ connects to any device with DisplayPort output over USB-C, which covers plenty of Android phones, tablets and laptops. Here's the rest of the spec sheet:

  • Display: Sony 0.55-inch Micro-OLED, 1920 x 1080 per eye
  • Field of view: 57 degrees
  • Tracking: native 3DoF via the X1 spatial computing chip
  • Brightness: up to 1,200 nits perceived, with electrochromic dimming
  • 3D: 2D-to-3D conversion at up to 60Hz
  • Audio: Sound by Bose
  • Fit: two IPD versions, adjustable temples, redesigned nose pad
  • Expansion: supports XREAL Eye for 6DoF and gesture control

The XREAL 1 Pro+ costs $599 and is available from XREAL directly from today. A bundle with the XREAL Eye camera costs $648, saving $50, while Amazon availability follows later in October and Best Buy timing is still to be confirmed.

Takeaway

On paper, the 1 Pro+ fixes the things One Pro owners grumbled about most, without messing with the tracking that made it good. If you've been waiting for brighter, more comfortable display glasses for travel or gaming, this looks like the one to watch.

If you already own a One Pro, the upgrade is harder to justify, since the core experience carries over. We're still waiting on UK and EU pricing, and it'll be worth seeing how that 1,200-nit brightness claim holds up in real-world light.
