Spotify is rolling out a Personal Podcasts feature that they announced earlier in May. As a Premium user, you can create private audio episodes using simple text prompts. They're also launching Studio by Spotify Labs, a desktop app that pulls from your bookmarks, calendar, and bookings to build fully personalized audio content.
Both features use a credits system, though Spotify hasn't clarified exactly how many credits come free with Premium. But Personal Podcasts rolls out in the US next month. Studio by Spotify Labs launches as a research preview in 20+ markets in the coming weeks.
What are Spotify Personal Podcasts?
Spotify spent the last year removing 75 million AI-generated tracks and banning artificially intelligent voice cloning just to fill its platform with more slop.
Personal Podcasts on Spotify are coming to join its tools. They allow you to type what you want and the streaming app generates a full audio episode for you. You can also fine-tune it with PDF uploads.

So if you want to hear an episode breaking down a press release or even your own article draft, feed the tool the document and it builds audio around the material. You’ll set an update frequency to happen daily, weekly, and pick a voice that delivers it. The grand idea is that you'll tell the algorithm what you want to hear, and not the other way around.
The bigger desktop version, which is Studio by Spotify Labs, is a desktop app that pulls content from your calendar, bookmarks, and personal data with your permission to build something more close to home. There's a daily brief video example embedded in the announcement post.

It shows someone asking for a summary of their plans for a road trip. Studio pulled their calendar, their bookings, suggested dinner spots along the route, and added a podcast recommendation for the full experience.
A set number of monthly credits comes with your Premium subscription, and you can buy more if you run out. You'll use these credits to generate your private podcasts. From what we already know about the service’s plans, Individual Premium is $13 per month, Duo is $19, Family is $22, and Student is $7.
Spotify held their 2026 Investor Day event last week, where they announced these AI-driven podcast push and smarter ads tied to a target of hitting one billion subscribers. They also launched a Wrapped-style recap of your entire listening history, and even changed their icon to a disco ball design and discontinued Viral Charts entirely.
Monetizing your podcast is easy now
On a side note, Spotify cut Partner Program eligibility thresholds by 80% in January 2026, dropping the required listener count from 2,000 to 1,000. So if you ever wanted to monetise a podcast, the bar just got lower.

If you're considering starting a podcast, you'll need 1,000 engaged listeners, 2,000 hours consumed, and at least three published episodes. Check your eligibility status on the Monetize tab in Spotify for Creators.
It's a standalone app separate from the main Spotify app. Find it on Google Play Store and install it for free.
While it does seem like a cheat code using AI, Spotify counts streams and not uploads. A stream is only counted when a listener plays your episode for 60 seconds or more. So you still need real people to lock in.
