Days ago, an X account called HMD_MEME'S leaked the official render for an upcoming HMD device. The phone has a dual camera setup and is rumored to be the Thunder Pro. Another set of leaks has since revealed the expected specs.

The HMD Thunder Pro was spotted in a dark charcoal/slate grey colorway with a flat display and a centered punch-hole cutout. It has slim bezels all around with a slightly thicker chin.
On the back is a large pill-shaped camera reminiscent of the newer Pixel modules. It sits horizontally across the upper center of the back. Two large circular lenses sit on either side of the pill with the LED flash in the middle between them.

The HMD logo is in the center of the back panel in a matching dark tone. The back itself has a subtle textured pattern that looks like a fine honeycomb or woven mesh rather than plain glass or plastic.
The phone also has flat rails with a slightly rounded feel. The frame appears to be plastic, and you can even see a textured or grippy strip running along one side. Volume and power buttons are on the right side.
The display is expected to be a 6.67-inch OLED with 1080p+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The phone will use the Unisoc T620 chip, which has two performance cores running at 2.2GHz and six efficiency cores, paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
The camera setup includes a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide lens, and a 50MP selfie lens on the back. The battery capacity is a 6,000mAh battery with support for 20W charging.
The device has an IP65 water resistance rating, where 6 provides full dust ingress protection and 5 means it can withstand water jets from any direction. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack, stereo speakers, and near-field communication (NFC) support.
Despite the Pro title in its name, the Thunder Pro seems to be a budget-to-lower-mid-range device after all. There's no word on pricing and launch yet.
Fans fear for HMD's design direction
One commenter is already mourning the design direction HMD is taking for the Thunder Pro. According to them, the brand shouldn't abandon its Meego-era aesthetic in favor of a generic look.
Another user suggests putting a great speaker on it and calling it the HMD Xpress Music 1, a nod to the old Nokia Xpress Music phones known for their audio quality.

For context, Meego was Nokia's operating system before the company collapsed. The phones that ran it, particularly the Nokia N9, had a curved polycarbonate unibody unlike anything else on the market at the time. HMD inherited it when it acquired the Nokia brand.
They have been gradually moving away from nostalgic features since losing Nokia brand licensing rights in 2024. Although HMD still needs the Nokia name to sell heritage, looking like everyone else on the shelf is almost inevitable to compete successfully.
