Watching Apple TV content on a bigger screen just became easier for Android users. Apple has quietly added Google Cast support to the Android version of the Apple TV app, allowing users to cast shows and movies directly to compatible TVs and Chromecast-enabled devices.

It’s a meaningful update for a feature that’s been notably absent since the Apple TV app launched on Android earlier this year. Until now, Android users have been limited to watching on their phones or relying on TV-based apps, which has made the experience feel oddly constrained for a modern streaming platform.

That said, the update still comes with some clear limitations. Google Cast is only available on the Android version of the Apple TV app — the iOS version does not support casting to Chromecast devices. At the same time, the Android app still lacks AirPlay support, so cross-ecosystem streaming remains highly segmented.

The timing is also interesting. This addition lands just weeks after Netflix removed the ability to cast directly from phones to many smart TVs, instead pushing users toward built-in TV apps. In that context, Apple’s move feels like a minor but welcome quality-of-life upgrade for Android users who prefer phone-based playback control.

If you’re not seeing the Google Cast option yet, make sure the Apple TV app is fully updated to version 2.2. Once installed, the Cast icon should appear in the top-right corner of the playback screen, next to the mute button, and in the pause overlay while content is playing.
