OnePlus hasn’t even finished rolling out the OnePlus 15R globally, and it’s already looking ahead. Over the weekend, the company used its anniversary celebrations to tease a brand-new smartphone line called OnePlus Turbo, with a clear emphasis on performance, battery life, and gaming.

According to OnePlus China president Li Jie Louis (via Weibo), the Turbo series is designed to push the “upper limits” of gaming performance, positioning it as a more purpose-built tier rather than just another incremental refresh. While details remain light, the messaging suggests OnePlus is aiming squarely at power users in 2026.

What OnePlus has confirmed so far

Officially, the pitch is simple. The OnePlus Turbo series will focus on leading performance, strong battery life, and gaming in its price segment. OnePlus hasn’t shared pricing, specs, or a precise launch window, only confirming that the series is coming soon and is already in development.

The wording also hints at a more gaming-oriented approach, potentially prioritising sustained performance and thermal stability rather than short benchmark bursts.

The leak that matters: 9,000mAh battery talk

This is where things get interesting. Leaker Smart Pikachu (via Weibo) suggests OnePlus could launch two Turbo models in 2026, both equipped with batteries hovering around the 9,000mAh mark. That would place them well above most current flagships — and even make the already large battery in the OnePlus 15 feel modest by comparison.

The same leaks point to large displays and a positioning that could put OnePlus Turbo directly up against Xiaomi’s Redmi Turbo lineup, which has become known for aggressive specs at competitive prices.

Is this battery size overkill?

A 9,000mAh smartphone battery still sounds extreme, especially for users who value slim designs and lighter phones. For many people, today’s 5,000–6,000mAh batteries already deliver all-day endurance without compromise.

That said, the market for giant batteries is clearly growing. Gaming-focused phones, in particular, benefit from massive capacity, helping maintain performance over long sessions while reducing charging anxiety. If OnePlus can pair that battery size with modern silicon-carbon tech and fast charging, Turbo could carve out a compelling niche.

What to expect next

For now, the OnePlus Turbo series looks likely to debut in China first, following a pattern we’ve seen with other high-capacity, performance-focused devices. If history repeats itself, global versions — if they arrive at all — may feature smaller batteries or tweaked configurations.

With the OnePlus 15R launch just around the corner, Turbo feels like a clear signal of where OnePlus wants to go next: bigger batteries, more aggressive performance targets, and a stronger push into gaming-centric phones in 2026.
