It was only a few weeks ago that the Realme GT 8 Pro was teased with its interchangeable camera island design. You'll be able to switch between three designs, including round, square, and robotic layouts. Each design alters only the external frame surrounding the lenses, not the actual camera hardware.

Now, Realme has officially announced a long-term strategic partnership with Ricoh Imaging, the maker of the legendary Ricoh GR cameras.

RICOH-powered performance on the GT 8 Pro

Realme has introduced a new concept, following its innovations on the GT 8 Pro’s camera. Snap by No Rules is simply a phrase meant to define the phone's approach to mobile photography.

Both companies wanted to move away from overly technical shooting experiences and instead build something that encourages instinctive, expressive photography. Basically, photography that happens in the moment. It's what younger users can relate to.

But a phone’s algorithm is only as good as the optics feeding it. If you were to think of smartphone photography as a conversation, the lens is the one speaking and the underlying algorithm is the one interpreting. Both companies have already gotten to work to ensure harmony.

Realme is currently in charge of refining the image processing algorithms and AI color tuning, while Ricoh’s optical engineers are fine-tuning the lens coatings, element spacing, and glass composition to maintain their GR-level clarity and low distortion.

There's even a RICOH GR Mode on the GT 8 Pro. Once you swipe into the mode, the interface strips away distractions and brings up a minimal layout similar to what you’d find on an actual Ricoh GR. You should hear the same satisfying click from the GR IV.

The addition of Snap Mode lets you preset the focus distance in advance, so you don't have to wait for autofocus to lock in. There are also five exclusive Ricoh GR color tones, including the Standard, Positive Film, Negative Film, Monotone, and High-Contrast B&W.

Great zoom paired with impressive focal lengths

The GT 8 Pro will provide two focal lengths of 28mm and 40mm. The 28mm lens is wide enough to capture life as it unfolds around you. The 40mm brings the atmosphere much closer. Most phones rely on multiple cameras to achieve this kind of versatility, so it's quite impressive.

The average smartphone user won’t think much of focal lengths, and it’s easy to confuse them with zoom. Zooming is just you pinching the screen to get closer or farther from your subject, often through digital cropping or a quick lens switch.

Focal length is a physical characteristic of the lens itself and determines how much of a scene your camera captures. It also determines how that scene looks in terms of depth and perspective.

Overall, the GT 8 Pro is confirmed to come with a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera and the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip. Rumours on the side talk about a 2K LTPO BOE flat OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and a massive 7,000mAh battery.
