Realme has never shied away from bold design experiments. This year alone, they've partnered with Aston Martin on the GT 7 Dream Edition and made the world's first color changing phone, the Realme 14 Pro.
Now, with the upcoming GT 8 Pro, we're getting interchangeable camera layouts. You'll be able to swap your phone’s rear design as easily as you change its case.
Camera modules you can change whenever you want
Realme recently posted a 14-second teaser of the GT 8 Pro on their Weibo account. Although the video doesn't show the phone exactly, it flashes a sequence of phrases along with animated robot-like shapes that are very telling. We saw the following words:
“Open, Put together, Mix as you like, Enjoy the fun of assembling, Realme GT 8 Pro, Have some fun, See you in October, Dare to leapfrog”.

We now know for sure that the phone will launch in China in October, with an Indian rollout expected around November. The exact date remains a mystery, but Realme’s priority right now is to sell its new approach to design.
You can now switch between different camera island frames, altering the shape and style of the rear module without touching the lenses themselves. I’ll admit that I was a little ahead of myself in expecting full lens-swapping technology where you could upgrade or replace the megapixel sensors themselves.
I'd have loved to switch a 50MP lens for a higher-resolution telephoto or even change the main lens over time. But that’s not exactly possible given how deeply integrated smartphone cameras are. Each lens and sensor is calibrated at the factory and tuned to work with specific image signal processors (ISPs).

They are then tied into the phone’s AI algorithms for different purposes. Even a slight change in sensor size or focal length would throw off the software optimization and require a complete recalibration of the system. Still, what Realme is doing is impressive enough.

The specs sheet for the GT 8 Pro is impressive
The GT 8 Pro is rumored to come with 120W wired charging. Wired charging support is available paired with a battery capacity in the 7,000mAh range. It will also carry Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, combined with up to 16GB of RAM.
Already, GSMArena has been testing the chip inside a prototype version of the phone. The results show around a 20% CPU uplift over the original Snapdragon 8 Elite.

Expect a 6.78-inch QHD AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and 4,000 nits of brightness that's most likely manufactured by BOE. It'll launch Android 16 layered with Realme UI 7 out of the box, and so will the base GT 8 model.
Both phones are the first to run it. Although not much has been confirmed about the software, it may bring a transparent theme like Apple's Liquid Glass. The cameras themselves are tipped to feature a 200MP periscope telephoto named the Ultra Eye, alongside a 50MP main and 50MP ultrawide lens.
