Shortly after buying the Galaxy S24 flagship, many users took to Reddit forums and the Samsung community to voice their dissatisfaction with its dull-colored and grayish-black display. Even in Vivid and Natural modes, it falls short of the vibrancy we've seen in previous S and A series models. Adjusting brightness settings didn't fix the issue.

But Samsung's support team has acknowledged the issue, and it may be a bug. Going by the chat exchange between one concerned user and an agent, the electronics company plans on releasing a software update soon. There's no timeframe for the update, but you'll want to keep the Wi-Fi or mobile data settings on to receive it.

What Really Caused The Washed-out Color Appearance On The S24?

Early batches of gadget or software releases have a high chance of developing issues. While pre-release testing is supposed to tie up loose ends, it can't possibly cover every scenario or real-world user behavior like the latest Samsung smartphone.

Speculations were abuzz initially that it was a screen issue, which is almost crazy considering that the phone features Corning Gorilla Glass Armor and Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology. Their combined strengths produce a scratch-resistant screen, vibrant colors, deep blacks, and accurate light reflection.

Samsung hasn’t officially released a statement for the widespread S24 issue. But it's most likely a bug, considering that not one but all three phone models have been affected. There are also the unchanging Vivid mode settings and issues reported in the past.

Around its release, Galaxy S23 users suffered the same experience with washed-out colors and a weird green tint. Subsequent updates and setting adjustments were able to fix the problem.

Samsung Is Coming To The Rescue

Forbes shared the chat between a concerned user and Samsung's support team, and they confirmed that the company is aware of the issue and is actively working on a fix.

We also contacted them, and although they wouldn’t say much, they assured us that the brand is dedicated to improving user experience and is preparing updates in the near future. It's a huge relief for users suffering the issue as high prices often raise expectations, and such initial issues may be a breach of trust. The S24 model starts at $800, with its corresponding models starting from $1000. The pricing varies across locations and according to the retailer.

A stable internet connection is advisable for downloading and installing upcoming updates. Lucky for you, you now have the WiFi 7 standard on the S24 Ultra for faster speeds. The S24 and S24 Plus phones won't have this perk because the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered variants in the US have been nerfed so that Europeans with Exynos-powered units aren't jealous, but they have Wi-Fi 6 and 6E, which are still very capable standards.

Considering the early potential issues with new releases like the S24, waiting a few months before purchase can allow for bug fixes and price drops. Not everyone may agree, but the pain of waiting for quality beats early access to the latest technology and satisfying early adopter excitement. Yet, in the end, the decision is on your scale to weigh. Which path do you think is better?
