With the S24 series freshly launched, you might be interested in getting one of the bigger devices in the lineup. It can be tough to decide which one is best for you, especially as this year brings changes that make them closer than ever. So, let's jump into a detailed comparison of the S24+ and the S24 Ultra.
How Do The Bigger Phones In The S24 Lineup Compare To Each Other
The Samsung Galaxy S24+ and S24 Ultra have kept Samsung's naming conventions since the S20 series launched, but a lot has changed. This year, the two phones stack pretty nicely against each other.
Which one is the right choice for you? Hopefully, you'll be able to decide after this in-depth comparison of the devices, so let's get into it.
Design
The most obvious difference between these smartphones is how they look, though they don't change much from previous generations. The S24+ is slightly smaller in all dimensions, though with a smaller display, that's expected. The camera layout is also different, but more on that later.
The S24 Ultra keeps the rectangular profile from previous generations while the S24+ opts for softer, rounded corners. Both have glass covering the front and back, with the S24+ maintaining the aluminum frame Samsung has mostly stuck to, while the S24 Ultra brings the very first titanium frame in Samsung history.
Display
Samsung has always paid good attention to screen quality and that doesn't change. Both phones boast HDR10+ QHD+ AMOLED LTPO displays with a max refresh rate of 120Hz and 2600-nit peak brightness. The Ultra reverts to a flat screen this year too.
The screen diagonal is closer than ever this year, with a 6.7-inch display on the S24+ and a 6.8-inch display on the Ultra. The Ultra does get the new Corning Gorilla Glass Armor though, which is stronger and less reflective.
Chipset, Storage, and RAM
The S24 Ultra ships internationally with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 equipped. You can get the same chip in the S24+ if you buy from the US, Canada, or China, but other territories will get the Samsung Exynos 2400.
All configurations of both devices come with 12GB of RAM. You can get either 256GB or 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage on both phones, but the S24 Ultra has an exclusive 1TB model.
Cameras
The cameras are where things get very different. Both phones share an identical 12MP setup for the selfie camera, but that's as far as exact similarities go.
The primary camera on the S24 Ultra is a 200MP sensor compared to the 50MP module on the S24+. Both have 10MP 3x telephoto modules, though the sensor for the Ultra is just slightly larger. They also both have similar 12MP ultrawide lenses, but the Ultra's gets Dual Pixel PDAF while the S24+ settles with regular PDAF.
The S24 Ultra gets an exclusive 50MP 5x telephoto camera, and can also record 4K at 120 frames per second (the S24+ maxes out at 60 frames per second).
Battery and Charging
The phones are extremely similar in this regard, with a minor difference in battery capacity being the only differentiator. The Ultra has a 5,000 mAh cell and the S24+ is close behind with a 4,900 mAh.
Both support 45W wired charging and 15W wireless charging.
Miscellaneous
If there's one thing that makes these Samsung smartphones different from each other and must always be mentioned, it's that the S24 Ultra comes with an S-Pen stored in the device.
This has been one of the biggest selling points of the S Ultra phones since the Note lineup died, and for many people, not having it is a dealbreaker.
Pricing
The S24 Ultra starts at $1,299 and the S24+ at $999. With a $300 difference, it's up to you to figure out whether the Ultra model brings enough extra to the table to justify that price point.
Is Samsung's largest model in the lineup worth it at that price, or is the S24+ the smarter choice to make? Let us know what you think about that.
