You Aren’t Alone If Your Galaxy S24 Display Shows Washed Out Colors

Samsung is known for their screens with bright and vivid colors, but early Galaxy S24 adopters are reporting the exact opposite.

The Samsung S24 series launched earlier this month to lots of excitement, bringing an improved experience over what the S23 devices were able to provide. Samsung's flagship displays have always been seen as some of the best in the industry, yet during the S24 launch presentation, they were able to convince us that the screens have somehow gotten even better (especially on the S24 Ultra).

However, complaints from early buyers point to a subpar screen experience, with washed-out colors being the main issue that many have.

Galaxy S24 Colors Are Looking Too Washed Out For Many

It's not rare to see early phone releases plagued by issues now and then. A lot of the time, these problems are related to the software and the company will promptly fix the bug and send out an update.

However, in many cases, it has to do with the screen (remember the green tint on the OnePlus 8 Pro and red tint on the Galaxy S8?). Users complain that the colors displayed on devices in the Samsung Galaxy S24 series are muted, and lack the typical vibrancy they are known for. With a QHD+ AMOLED screen that can hit 2600 nits of brightness, it makes sense that people want the colors they paid for.

Despite going into the display settings and changing the screen mode to Vivid instead of Natural, it seems colors remain the same too. It's thought that this might be a bug related to the toggle in this menu not working the way that it should.

A Software Update May Be On The Way To Fix This

The good thing is, if these washed-out colors are a result of a software bug and not a hardware issue, a software update should definitely arrive at some point to fix things. According to a Reddit user who supposedly works with Samsung, this has been confirmed to be a bug and a fix for it is likely to arrive in February.

I have faith in Samsung to be able to sort out this issue, as most similar problems around launch time have always been fixable with software updates. The only real question is when it will arrive. But hey, if you were already a lover of the Natural screen mode, then you shouldn't be in excessive anticipation of that update.

Samsung And Their Signature Vivid Colors

Samsung is very strongly associated with very brightly saturated tones and colors on their smartphone displays (and cameras too). But how did they get to this point?

Well, if you ask me, it was all thanks to Samsung being one of the major adopters of AMOLED tech. Remember the Samsung Galaxy S that started it all? It came with a Super AMOLED display and all flagship Samsung devices have stuck with the technology ever since.

Since AMOLED displays offer more vibrant colors than LCD, Samsung leaned into that as a selling point for their flagships, and that's been part of their DNA ever since. However, since there's nothing better than the luxury of choice, they added an option that lets you tone down the saturation if you're not a fan.
