Samsung recently introduced the Samsung Galaxy S24 series phones, which are set to be the first device to feature the new Corning screen.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, with its new and improved display, is said to be capable of reducing reflections by up to 75% and shines in drop tests on concrete. All these statements aren’t just for show, as the Galaxy S24 has one of the toughest displays out there.
What is the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Cornering Gorilla Armor
The Corning Gorilla Glass Armor debuted alongside the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra in January 2024. As Corning put it, it's the “most optically advanced Gorilla Glass yet.”
Corning's displays have been used on countless Samsung devices. and the collaboration continues with the Samsung S24 Ultra. The newest Corning flagship screen has been deemed to be one of the toughest screens yet, passing several tests with flying colors unlike the now-ancient Galaxy Note 7.
What Does Cornings Have to Say About the Galaxy S24 Screen?
Corning claims that the results of its lab tests testing the new phone cover showed that “Gorilla Armor performs up to three times better on drop tests when dropped onto surfaces replicating concrete compared to competitive aluminosilicate glasses when dropped onto surfaces relocating concrete.”
Corning doesn’t only claim that the new Glass Armor is stronger than the other glass brands, it also claims that reflection is reduced by up to 75%, which will help to enhance display readability and reduce screen reflections in almost any environment.
The company has created an innovative lab test, the “Scratch Bot,” to replicate micro scratches caused by everyday wear. During this rigorous test, the Gorilla Glass Armor showed no visible scratches and demonstrated over four times more scratch resistance than rival aluminosilicate glasses.
Galaxy S24 Ultra Scratch Test Results
PBKReviews performed a scratch test which involved putting the Corning Gorilla Glass Armor against Mohs’s Hardness Test Kit. This kit has several picks that are each in different hardness values. Most of the flagship phones scratch at level 6, with deeper grooves at level 7. However, the Galaxy S24 Ultra scratches at level 7, with deeper grooves at level 8. The result of this test showcases a significant improvement over the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 of S23 Ultra.
The findings of the aforementioned test mean you don't have to fret when carrying the phone in your pocket. Even if you have keys, coins, or similar hard and sharp objects inside your pocket, no visible scratches should be caused on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. With that being said, it is still recommended to use a screen protector.

Although the Corning Gorilla Armor is by no means perfect, it’s a step in the right direction to ensuring users don't have to treat their mobile phones like glass while being scared that they’ll crack or be scratched. We look forward to what Corning comes up with in the future.
