HTC

HTC isn't totally out of the smartphone game, but it's rare to see them do a whole lot anymore. Every once in awhile we get a new phone that's designated for a very specific market or niche, and yeah, they don't do very well, but we love to see our old best friend try.

The next phone coming up looks to be the HTC Desire 20 Pro. It's not going to be a return to flagship form, but it could be a good stepping stone if it's priced right.

Some specs for the leaked device have shown up on the Google Play developer console, detailing exactly what to expect under the hood.

There's a Snapdragon 665 paired with 6GB of RAM, a 1080p screen, and Android 10 powering everything. It sounds like a fairly standard middle-of-the-road smartphone for 2020.

The hardware isn't generally HTC's problem, but pricing it is. HTC used to be able to command a premium when they were on top of the dogpile, but their slipping standing never caught up to the execs that were in charge of figuring out how much things cost. They'd slap a $100 premium on just about anything for the HTC name, but people weren't buying it when they could get better hardware and value elsewhere.

Let's hope the Design 20 Pro sits somewhere around the $200 to $300 range, and fingers crossed HTC doesn't think this is a $600 device.
