OnePlus currently pushes out quite a few OxygenOS beta updates to its phones. If you're keeping up with the program, you get two open betas per month and four closed betas, which means you can update your phone's software about once a week if you're on top of it.
That release schedule looks to be slowing down, though, with OnePlus only committing to a less frequent cycle in the future.
Fewer OxygenOS betas
So why is OnePlus slowing down here? According to their recent forum post, they believe that too many people are using the betas as daily driver software and a way to get newer features quicker. That's not a problem by itself, but OnePlus uses these beta releases to get useful feedback and info about its software; when people are just treating it like an early upgrade and not like a true beta that needs monitoring and solid feedback, it lessens the value of the program, at least to OnePlus.
This shouldn't affect the regular release schedule for standard OxygenOS updates, and it should still have some perks for beta users. While the betas are less frequent, that should lead to a slightly more stable experience. Getting a more stable beta might sound a bit oxymoronic, but hey, it's something.
