As other brands scramble to roll out Android 10 updates to their phones, LG has finally joined the party and released a roadmap showing when users can expect to see their handsets receive the OS upgrade. To cut a long story short, it's not all good news, there are going to be some unhappy LG fans whose phones only receive the Android 10 update in Q4 2020.
According to a support page on the Italian LG website, the Android 10 OTA will begin rolling out to the following phones on this schedule:
- Early February: V50 ThinQ
- Q2 2020: G8X ThinQ
- Q3 2020: LG G7 ThinQ, G8S ThinQ, V40 ThinQ
- Q4 2020: LG K50S, K40S, K50, Q60
V50 ThinQ owners will be appeased by the promise of getting Android 10, with the surprise inclusion of LG's desktop mode, but the users of older LG handsets are going to be a tad miffed. It's a terribly frustrating thing to be getting an OS upgrade at the same time or after smartphones start launching with a brand new version of Android.
Considering that Android 10 was announced back in August last year, and multiple phones have launched running this latest version of Android and that the software center that LG opened up in the US was supposed to help with providing timeous updates, it's really not good enough. This isn't new for LG, unfortunately, because while they make great hardware, software support is often lacking. Basically, they've become the new Samsung when it comes to updating handsets, which is something to keep in mind when you are next due for an upgrade.
What do you think of LG's proposed update schedule?
