Google's AirDrop clone has been in the works for a while, with several rumors popping up every few months. The feature seems to have progressed pretty steadily since it was originally leaked awhile back, and now it seems like the official release is pretty close.
While it was originally called Fast Share, it looks like Google has changed the name to Nearby Sharing. It's not quite official yet, but some tweaking can enable it on certain phones, and we're getting out first good look at it, courtesy of XDA Developers.
Nearby Sharing
If you're not familiar with AirDrop, the concept is pretty simple. It uses a mix of Bluetooth and WiFi Direct to quickly pair up two devices for sending files. It uses the former for devices to find each other (a phone to a phone, a phone to a laptop, etc.) but then establishes the WiFi Direct connection for sending large files, since that's obviously much faster than trying to squeeze something over Bluetooth.
Apple devices make the process really simple, and even though Android phones support all the same hardware, they've never been unified in software like what Apple can do. Nearby Sharing aims to change that.
The feature seems to be baked into Google Play Services, so you may not necessarily need to wait for a full software update to snag it. XDA Developers has tested sending files to and from a Pixel 4 and Pixel 2 without problems, and a OnePlus 7T Pro got thrown in for good measure, so this most likely won't be a Pixel-exclusive feature.
To share something you can do the same things you've always done to send files, but now Android's share menu will have an extra option for Nearby Sharing. Depending on the receiving device's preferences, though, you might have to quickly tap the Quick Settings toggle for Nearby Sharing to open up your phone's availability to receive files. Like AirDrop, this is done to keep complete strangers from bombarding you with files that you may not want, or to keep the feature off altogether.
As always, things can still change before they're released, since we're essentially talking about beta software at this point. But with how ready it all looks, it seems like Google should have this ready to go sooner rather than later, which means it'll be in a prime position to take on Samsung's own AirDrop clone, not to mention the others coming from Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo.

Uploading is an old and tested method to share files. However, it is much more convenient to send many files or large files with Binfer. Binfer is the best way to send large files to someone privately.
