Following the Delhi court banning their ‘Zenfone' brand two days ago, Asus has relaunched their newest value flagship in India without it, adding a ‘z' for some reason.
Only two days ago we reported on the Delhi High Court's banning of the company's ‘Zen' and ‘Zenfone' brands in India, but already Asus has managed to remarket and relaunch their latest ‘Zenfone 6' in the country as the ‘Asus 6z'.
As a fairly boring, and potentially under-specific name, ‘6z' is also odd as it sort of returns to the naming schema of the Zenfone 5 and its more powerful 5z variant, which I don't quite understand the reasoning behind given there's budget variation.
Other than the name, the Zenfone 6 / Asus 6z are of course identical, meaning the same 6.4″ FHD+ IPS display, Snapdragon 855, 6GB of RAM, 64GB of ROM, dual 48MP standard + 13MP ultrawide flippable camera module, and mammoth 5000mAh battery running a near-stock build of Android.
It seems like Asus will be rebranding devices for the Indian market, for now at least – I wouldn't be surprised if they rethink their global mobile branding for future devices, for the sake of convenience even if nothing else.
