Amazon has announced a refresh of their Fire 7 tablets, which will be officially available in a couple of weeks on June 6th. These new tablets stick to the same tried-and-true design that Amazon loves, and they're still only going to be $49. But they do offer some key upgrades over the older tablets that many users are really going to appreciate.
Storage is doubled on these tablets, jumping up to a minimum of 16GB. The old tablets started at just 8GB, which is almost unusable in 2019. 16GB still isn't a ton of space, but it's at least enough to install a few apps without immediately getting dinged with low storage notifications. There's still an upgraded option, which in this case would be a 32GB tablet for $69.
Amazon also says it has increased the memory bandwidth of this tablet, and the processor has seen a slight upgrade; it's still a quad-core 1.3GHz CPU, but it should perform a bit better. You can also expand the storage up to 512GB on these tablets, which is double what the previous model could support.

Besides the regular Fire 7, the Kids Edition tablet is also seeing some small upgrades. It's getting the same processor bump, and the kid-friendly case comes with an adjustable hinge that doubles as a kickstand.
Like the regular Fire 7, this one launches June 6th, too. It's still $99 and unfortunately isn't seeing any base model storage upgrades, but it also didn't launch with 8GB, either.
Additionally, I really dig the new colors for the Fire 7 tablet. They're a little more muted, but I think that burgundy looks great.
