Nokia has experiencing a massive rise in the smartphone industry, then a massive fall, and now it looks like they're on the way back up with HMD Global. They make some of our favorite budget-friendly devices, and now they've managed to strike a deal with some carriers to bring those phones to even more customers instead of only selling unlocked.
The two new phones on these deals will be the Nokia 3.1 and the Nokia 2 V, and I'll let you guess what carrier the latter will be on while we talk about the Nokia 3.1.
The Nokia 3.1 is the better of the two devices with a 5.99-inch HD+ display, Snapdragon 439 CPU, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. It also includes some rarer features on budget phones like a fingerprint scanner and USB C port, and it's all available for just $159.

Cricket will be carrying the device in the US starting today, and a few carriers in Canada will be picking it up in the next few weeks. For the price point it really does seem like a killer deal, especially if you can manage to snag one of Cricket's aggressive port-in deals.
Did you guess where the Nokia 2 V will be landing? Yup, it's Verizon.
The Nokia 2 V is a slightly downgraded version of the other phone, sporting a smaller 5.5-inch HD display, Snapdragon 425, 1GB of RAM, and a paltry 8GB of storage. It has a microSD card slot and ships with the Android Go version of Android 8.1 Oreo, but that's still a painfully small amount of storage.

No word on pricing of the Nokia 2 V, but it will be available on Verizon prepaid later this month on January 31st, if you're interested in picking one up.
And if these go well, this just might open the door for Nokia to start pushing some high-end devices into carrier stores, which can only help their brand in the US.
