If you are looking for a smartphone that falls within the higher end of the spectrum but does not carry a huge price tag, then you may want to check out the ASUS ZenFone 5Z. The handset is now available for pre-order through Amazon with a price tag of only $499. Units should start shipping on August 13th.
The ZenFone 5Z comes equipped with a Snapdragon 845 processor, 6GB of RAM, 64GB of onboard storage and a dual lens rear-facing camera. Out of the box the ZenFone 5Z will run Android 8.0 Oreo underneath ASUS' ZenUI interface. Those specs put it in the ballpark with other high end phones. However, the 6.2-inch IPS display runs at a standard HD resolution of 2246 x 1080 and the rear-facing camera sensors are only 12MP and an 8MP wide-angle lens. The other issue potential buyers may run into is that the phone is only compatible with the AT&T and T-Mobile networks, so Verizon and Sprint customers are left out. The device is also lacking any water/dust resistance.
The ZenFone 5Z is built out of aluminum and glass, so it should have a nice premium feel to it. Currently, Amazon only lists the Midnight Blue color version. A silver version is expected to be available as well.
