Qualcomm's relentless march to continue improving their processors may see the next big announcement taking place in December. Despite some earlier rumors that Qualcomm might introduce a Snapdragon 836 as a small step up from the Snapdragon 835, all signs point to the Snapdragon 845, the company's next generation in the Snapdragon line as being next up. According to a post on Weibo, Qualcomm will be holding an event from December 4th through the 8th in Hawaii at which time it is expected the Snapdragon 845 will be unveiled.
Sources indicate the Snapdragon 845 should see improvements in just about every component module that is included on the chip. That includes the Kryo architecture for the main CPU, improvements to the Adreno graphics architecture, the LTE chip, the ISP image processing unit, and other pieces. One item that may be a disappointment though is that the Snapdragon 845 will apparently be manufactures on Samsung's 10nm line. Many were hoping Qualcomm would be able to move production of their flagship to Samsung's 7nm manufacturing line. The good news is that performance reportedly improves by 25% over the current generation Snapdragon 835.
If the chip is unveiled in December, the first devices to come equipped with the Snapdragon 845 should launch during the first quarter of 2018. Leaading contender include both LG for the LG G7 and Samsung with the Galaxy S9 according to previous reports. Another potential contender for first to market could be the Xiaomi Mi 7.
