It seems that some crafty developer has set out to prove Google and HTC wrong by showing them that it is possible to run ICS on devices that have “incompatible hardware”. Some fella going by the name jcarrz1 over at XDA has posted a video showing the oldschool HTC G1 of all devices, running a build of the latest Android 4.0 software.
As you will notice in the video below, the G1 seems to be struggling fairly bad at completing rather menial tasks such as swapping from screen to screen and opening smaller apps. I am not sure you could call this port usable and I don't foresee many people dying to get their hands on it. Regardless, this is a huge feat and I don't mean to downplay the success because I was truly impressed to see what jcarrz1 and team have accomplished. Great work guys, I am curious to see what's next!
Jump past the break to check out the video for yourself and be sure to let us know what you think.

Now that you have seen the G1 in action, which device would you most like to see receive an ICS port?

LG is supposedly looking at updating it to ICS but I haven’t heard any official release on that and would like to see ICS on the dual core LG G2x which, I would think, would be plenty capable of running it. Also does anyone know if I can get ICS if I’m a dev? I’m going to be learning java soon and I’m building a powerhouse computer to program with and ICS would be an awesome added bonus to that. Thanks, Des
The G1 was never fast with its original Android … what else can we ask of it…. I would like to see my ATRIX get some ICS love…
Nice work, but it lags too much :)
It’s expected, I guess, considering that the G1 came out three years ago. Back then, Tegra 2 and dual-core (or even quad-core) mobile chips were still stuff that geek dreams were made of. :-) But, frankly, it’s heartwarming to note that the latest Android still works on older hardware. I’m now wondering if ICS can be tweaked to perform a bit snappier on older hardware.
